Lehigh Football Pounds Lafayette; Wins First Patriot League Title Since 2017

“This is an incredible feeling for our players, coaches, and the entire Lehigh community,” said Lehigh head coach Tom Gilmore. “We’ve worked incredibly hard all season, and to finish it off with a victory like this is just amazing.”

The Mountain Hawks dominated the game from start to finish, showcasing their offensive and defensive prowess. Quarterback Dante Perri led the charge, completing 15 of 24 pass attempts for 175 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Gaige Garcia added 123 rushing yards and scored the game’s opening touchdown.

Lafayette struggled to gain momentum throughout the game, only managing to score a touchdown in the fourth quarter. The Mountain Hawks’ defense held the Leopards to just 205 total yards, forcing three turnovers.

“Our defense played lights out today,” said Gilmore. “They were relentless in their pursuit and made it nearly impossible for Lafayette to move the ball.”

The victory has significant implications for Lehigh’s football program. It marks their first Patriot League title in over four years, breaking a two-season title drought. Additionally, the win gives Lehigh an automatic berth in the NCAA FCS Championship Tournament.

“This is a program-changing win for us,” said athletic director Troy Eich. “It shows that we’re back among the elite in the FCS, and we’re ready to compete for a national championship.”

Lehigh will now await their NCAA Tournament fate, with the selection show scheduled for Sunday, November 27th. The Mountain Hawks are poised for a deep tournament run with their impressive offensive and defensive units.
