Headline: Lehigh to Open 141st Season Friday Night at Army West Point

Lehigh University’s football team will open its 141st season Friday night when it travels to West Point, N.Y., to face Army West Point at Michie Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.

The Mountain Hawks are coming off a 4-7 season in 2022 and will be looking to improve under first-year head coach Tom Gilmore. Army, meanwhile, went 6-6 last season and is led by 10th-year head coach Jeff Monken.

“We’re excited to get the season started,” said Gilmore. “Army is a tough opponent, but we’re confident that we can go out there and compete.”

Lehigh has a 22-53-5 all-time record against Army, but the Mountain Hawks have won the last two meetings, including a 27-20 victory in 2021.

“Army is a well-coached team that always plays hard,” said Lehigh senior linebacker Jake Heimlicher. “We know we’re going to have to be at our best to beat them.”

The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.

Lehigh is the fifth-oldest college football program in the country, and Army is the sixth-oldest. The two schools first met on the gridiron in 1899, and their rivalry has been one of the most heated in college football history.

Lehigh’s football team is a source of pride for the university and the surrounding community. The Mountain Hawks have a large and passionate fan base, and their games are always well-attended.

Lehigh is one of four Patriot League teams that will be playing FBS opponents this season. The other three teams are Holy Cross, Lafayette, and Bucknell.

Lehigh fans are excited for the start of the season and are hopeful that the Mountain Hawks can make a run at the Patriot League championship.

Lehigh will return home to host Bryant next Saturday, Sept. 9. Army will travel to Villanova next Saturday, Sept. 9.
