Germany secured a valuable 2-1 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday, with Deniz Undav scoring both goals for the visitors.
The opening 45 minutes were tightly contested, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances. Bosnia had the better of the early exchanges, but Germany grew into the game and had a golden opportunity to take the lead when Serge Gnabry hit the post.
After the break, it was Undav who opened the scoring for Germany. The striker, who has been in impressive form for Brighton and Hove Albion this season, latched onto a through ball and calmly slotted it past Bosnia goalkeeper Ibrahim Sehic.
Bosnia responded quickly through Smail Prevljak, who headed home a cross from Anel Ahmedhodžić. However, Germany regained the lead just minutes later, with Undav scoring his second of the night after good work from Leroy Sané.
Germany defended resolutely in the closing stages, with goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen making a crucial save late on. The victory moves Germany up to second place in Group B3, behind Hungary, who defeated Italy earlier on Saturday.
Undav’s double takes his tally for the season to six goals in all competitions. The striker is proving to be a valuable addition to the German national team and his form will be vital in their quest to qualify for the 2024 European Championship.
Germany will be back in action on Tuesday, when they face Hungary in Leipzig. Bosnia, meanwhile, will travel to Italy for their next Nations League fixture.
