Trailing 14-7 with less than ten minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Penn State quarterback Drew Allar led a 12-play, 75-yard drive. Running back Kaytron Allen capped the drive with a game-tying one-yard touchdown run.
With just over two minutes on the clock, Wisconsin drove into Penn State territory and faced a 4th-and-goal from the two-yard line. However, Penn State’s defense held strong, as sophomore linebacker Curtis Jacobs intercepted a Graham Mertz pass in the end zone to seal the victory.
Freshman quarterback Drew Allar impressed with his performance, completing 17 of 23 passes for 198 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 36 yards, including a key 14-yard scramble on the game-tying drive.
Penn State’s defense played a pivotal role in the win, holding Wisconsin to just 34 rushing yards. The Badgers’ only two touchdowns came on special teams plays, a punt block recovery for a score and a 49-yard fumble return.
“This is a huge win for us in a hostile environment,” said Penn State head coach James Franklin. “Our players showed great resilience and composure in the face of adversity.”
“We played with a lot of heart today,” added Allar. “We knew it was going to be tough, but we never gave up.”
Penn State’s comeback victory improves their record to 2-0 in Big Ten play and 4-0 overall. They will face their toughest test of the season next Saturday when they host No. 5 Ohio State at Beaver Stadium. Wisconsin, now 1-2 in conference and 2-3 overall, will look to rebound at home against Illinois next week.
