
Johni Broome Leads No. 4 Auburn Past North Alabama
AUBURN, Ala. – Sophomore forward Johni Broome dominated the paint with a career-high 29 points and 13 rebounds as No. 4 Auburn held off North Alabama, 89-75, on Tuesday night at Neville Arena.
Broome, who was 13-of-14 from the field, helped Auburn (9-0) overcome a sluggish start and improve to 7-0 at home this season. The Tigers led by just five points at halftime, but they pulled away in the second half thanks to Broome’s dominance and a strong defensive effort.
Broome Takes Over
Broome was unstoppable in the paint, scoring from all over the floor. He had several dunks, but he also showed his ability to hit mid-range jumpers. Broome’s 29 points were the most by an Auburn player this season.
In addition to his scoring, Broome also grabbed 13 rebounds, including six offensive rebounds. He was a force on the glass, and he helped Auburn outrebound North Alabama 42-31.
Tigers’ Defense Steps Up
Auburn’s defense was much better in the second half, holding North Alabama to just 32.3% shooting from the field. The Tigers also forced 14 turnovers, which they converted into 20 points.
North Alabama (4-5) was led by Daniel Ortiz, who had 18 points. Jacari Lane added 14 points, and Kendrick Tucker chipped in 13 points.
