Since his arrival in 2020, Norvell has guided the Seminoles to a 10-15 record. While the team has not achieved the desired heights yet, it has shown signs of improvement. In 2022, FSU posted a 5-7 record, its first winning season since 2019.
Athletic Director Michael Alford praised Norvell’s leadership and commitment to building a successful program. “Coach Norvell has a strong vision for the future of Seminole football. He is committed to developing our student-athletes both on and off the field, and we believe he is the right person to lead us to a championship level.”
The terms of Norvell’s new contract were not disclosed, but it is believed to be a significant increase from his previous salary of approximately $4 million annually. According to reports, the contract includes performance incentives and buyout clauses.
With the extended contract, Norvell faces heightened expectations from fans and administrators. The Seminoles have not won a conference title since 2014, and a return to prominence is eagerly anticipated. However, Norvell must overcome challenges such as a tough schedule and a lack of depth at key positions.
The contract extension provides stability and a vote of confidence for Norvell. It also gives him the time and resources to continue building the program and achieving the desired results. The 2023 season will be crucial in determining whether Norvell can live up to the expectations and lead Florida State Football back to its former glory.
