The Broncos’ defense played a pivotal role in the win, forcing three Wyoming turnovers and holding the Cowboys to just 101 yards of total offense in the second half. “Our defense really stepped up tonight,” Boise State head coach Andy Avalos said. “They created turnovers, got off the field on third downs, and made some big plays when we needed them.”
Wyoming opened the scoring with a touchdown pass from quarterback Andrew Peasley to tight end Treyton Welch. However, Boise State responded with a 12-point second quarter, capped by a Cade Fennegan touchdown run.
The Cowboys cut the lead to three with a field goal in the third quarter, but the Broncos’ defense held strong in the fourth quarter, forcing a turnover on downs and intercepting a desperation pass to seal the victory.
Wyoming head coach Craig Bohl praised his team’s effort despite the loss. “Our kids fought hard all night,” Bohl said. “We just came up short against a very good football team.”
The victory keeps Boise State in contention for a Mountain West championship and a possible berth in a New Year’s Six bowl game. The Broncos will host Utah State next week in a key conference matchup.
Meanwhile, Wyoming falls to 1-2 on the season and will look to rebound next week against Tulsa.
